Well we got there!
Winter Tournament week was a busy one for Kavanagh College teams who travelled from Nelson to Invercargill to participate. I will start at the top and work my way down.
Our Under 15 Boys rugby team travelled to Nelson for their tournament and although we didn't win a game, the boys came away with a very valuable experience which can only hold them in good shape for next season. Congratulations to Filipe Vaka'uta who was selected in the tournament team. Many thanks to Brendan Jarvie, William Hola and Michael Jago who managed and coached the boys.
The Senior A netball team were in Timaru for the South Island netball champs where we finished 23rd in B grade. They finished the tournament on a high, winning a nail biter against Westland, a good way to send the year 13 players off. Thanks to Lisa Matheson, Elyse Corkhill, Kerrie Laws and Savannah Laws for coaching, managing and refereeing.
The Girls First XI football team were in Dunedin for the Lotto Sportswear football tournament. They competed very well considering they had a few key players injured, only losing some games by one goal. They eventually finished 16th. Thanks to Iris Bugarski and Iain Davis for coaching and managing the team.
The Boys and Girls Senior A basketball teams were also in Dunedin for their tournaments. The girls took a very young team into the tournament and finished 4th but gained some great tournament experience leading into 2023. Thanks to Gerard Mullin, Annalise Wilson and to Liz Cameron who has hung up her basketball boots and is retiring from the management. The boys had a great tournament with some awesome wins finishing 8th overall. Thanks to Kalas Taukamo and Oli Pali for coaching the team.
Down to Gore, where our mixed hockey team had a very busy week and played some really good hockey winning two games and finishing 10th. Many thanks to our coaches Scott White and Samantha White and to Brent Ford for managing.
We finish off in Invercargill where our Boys First XI football team finished 12th, a very solid tournament for the team with some good wins and some close losses. My thanks to Jachery Joseph, Richard Kerr Bell and to manager of the year David Sole for their support of the team.
To all our year 13 students for whom this was your last tournament week, I wish you all the best.
Can't wait untill 2023 bring it on.
