Deputy Head Boy - Soni Taungapeau
My name is Uatesoni (Soni) Taungapeau and I came to Kavanagh College in Year 7 in 2012, from St Joseph’s Cathedral School.
I am full Tongan and have had a very strong Tongan upbringing. My older sisters both attended Kavanagh College and my younger brother Semisi currently attends Kavanagh College.
I have been involved with many aspects of Kavanagh College. I have played volleyball, rugby and basketball and have also been involved with the Polyfest group, Pasifika Vibes since Year 7. I have also been involved with Peer Mentoring younger students and also Peer Support. I, like the rest of my siblings, belong to the mighty house of Bodkin.
I come from a strong Catholic background and have been involved with church through readings, altar serving or singing in the Tongan choir. I am a member of the wider Tongan and Pacific community here in Dunedin.
Kavanagh has played a vital role in my education and also the development of my leadership skills. Kavanagh is a second home to me. I am very proud of Kavanagh College and intend on being a great Deputy Head Boy for 2018.
My goals for this year are to be a role model for other students and to strongly enforce and embed in the students the school’s core values of Respect, Justice, Truth and Service. I would also like to be an advocate for any students who are struggling and need a helping hand. I would also like to get involved in social justice.
