Gifted & Talented
Trinity's GATE programme ensures that students who need to be challenged and supported with extending their learning are provided for. The Dean of Gifted and Talented works with parents, students and subject teachers to not only provide accelerated learning opportunities when needed, but also pastoral support through understanding the variety of needs of our gifted and talented students.
We gather information from staff and whānau to triangulate the individual needs of our gifted and talented students. Most will be well catered for in class with our kaiako understanding their students' needs. Some may need more differentiation and a few will need individual learning plans outside of the curriculum. We review our gifted and talented students throughout the year and extensive conferencing is undertaken to ensure that the students, their whānau and their teachers are happy with the progress they are making.
Trinity Catholic College also offers opportunities outside of the curriculum and mentoring with people within our school community who can cater to different talents, such as writing, philosophy and politics. We also have opportunities to work with outside providers such as the Otago University Te Whare Wānanga o Ōtākou and Otago Polytechnic Te Kura Matatini ki Otago.

“I am really grateful for the opportunities provided by the GATE support at Trinity as it has allowed me to extend my maths abilities by studying at a higher level and reach my fullest potential while remaining in a familiar and friendly school environment.” (Tobias Devereux)
