This course is primarily for bilingual students for whom English is not their first language.

Course Outline

This course provides students with the English language skills they need to succeed in their mainstream classes. In addition to Unit Standards, students in years 12-13 may also prepare for TOIEC/TOEFL or IELTS international exams.

Assessment

English Language Unit Standards. (Levels 2-3, all Internally Assessed).

Students enter standards based on ability and will complete a selection of the following: 

Level 2:

US 30995 - Read and understand a straightforward text on a familiar topic (EL)  - 5 credits

US 27999 - Write a simple connected text on a familiar topic (EL) - 5 credits

US 31020 - Participate in an interview on a familiar topic (EL) - 5 credits

US 30980 - Demonstrate understanding of straightforward spoken text on a familiar topic (EL) - 5 credits

Level 3: 

US 30982 - Demonstrate understanding of a spoken text on a familiar topic (EL) - 5 credits

US 30997 - Read and understand a text on a familiar topic (EL) - 5 credits

US 28062 -Participate in a formal interview (EL) - 5 credits

US 28068 - Write a connected text on a familiar topic (EL)- 5 credits

Where Does It Lead

To becoming competent in all modes of English, as required in the New Zealand curriculum, and so being successful in mainstream classes at Trinity Catholic College.
