NCEA Level 3 with Unit Standards. Credits cannot be used for University Entrance.

Entry Requirement

It is recommended that students have achieved at least 60 Level 2 credits. Students must complete US167 "Practice Food Safety Methods in a Foods Business" as a prerequisite.

Cost

$100 for food consumed during practical lessons and a course workbook. Yet to be confirmed.

Course Outline

Food and Nutrition is a one year course of practical and theoretical cookery and hospitality skills.

US 167 - Practice food safety methods in a food business under supervision.   4 credits

US 13316 - Prepare and cook basic pasts dishes in a commercial kitchen  3 credits

US 13343 - Demonstrate knowledge of nutrition in a commercial kitchen.   5 credits

US 13325 - Prepare and bake basic cakes, sponges and scones in a commercial kitchen  4 credits

US 13282 - Prepare, assemble and present complex sandwiches for service in a commercial kitchen. 2 credits

US 18497 - Demonstrate knowledge of culinary products, terms, and food preparation methods. 8 credits

 

 

Where Does It Lead

Tertiary study in the hospitality field.

Jobs in the hospitality industry including self employed business owner, chef, kitchen hand, and caterer.
