Principal's Message

We are continuing to review our systems and processes to ensure that we are making Kavanagh a safe place for your children. Thank you to those parents who have responded to our question about the ability to access the internet and devices at home for online learning should we need to do this. Thank you also to those who have communicated about absences, reasons and any concerns they have. We are ready to continue with student learning remotely should we be asked to close and, should this occur, we will communicate a set of guidelines and expectations at the time.

On Sunday morning, Piata Rapata-Hanning is starring on ‘Marae’ on TVNZ 1. If you have the opportunity to watch this, you will hear of some of the work that Piata has done within the college. We enjoyed having Piata, supported by Whaia May Tate-Manning, come into our staff professional learning session on Wednesday morning to revisit our Te Reo and pronunciation. This was a good example of tuakana teina (more experienced teaching the less experienced) in the college and we look forward to more of this in the future.

Today we remember recent principal, Tracy O’Brien, on the first anniversary of his passing. This is a difficult day for many who were close to him and we continue to talk about and remember him fondly. We will gather in prayer this afternoon at the conclusion of school, and we will be joined by some colleagues representing the wider forums that Tracy was an important part of during his principalship.

Grant to him eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
