Talented Year 10 Trinity Catholic College student Jade Boyd represented Otago recently at the Special Olympics Southern Regional Swimming Champs, and achieved some fantastic results.
Swimming superstar Jade Boyd represented Otago at the Southern Regional Swimming Champs, hosted by Special Olympics Otago over the weekend. Athletes from sports clubs in Canterbury, Southland and Otago competed in sports such as basketball, swimming, football, ten-pin bowling and powerlifting. As reported in the ODT, Special Olympics Otago chairman Rob Torrance said these opportunities could be "life-changing" for some of the athletes. The opportunity to get out there and compete against like-minded athletes, socialise with your peers, and represent your region is fantastic.
Jade's impressive efforts in the pool saw her gain the 'trifecta' of medals. A gold, silver AND bronze! Even more special was the fact that this was Jade's first regional competition, and first time receiving medals at such a prestigious event! Well done Jade! We are extremely proud of you and your commitment to training and competing.
Results:
Gold - Relay
Silver - Freestyle event
Bronze - Backstroke event
Congratulations!
