12PE Naseby Bike Trip

Last Wednesday, the Year 12 PE class set off on the annual PE adventure in Naseby, eager to apply their knowledge of risk management strategies in a real-world setting. Having studied various risk management strategies, RAMS forms and scenarios in class, students were given the challenge of putting these skills to the test as they navigated the trails of Naseby's renowned mountain biking park.
We were incredibly fortunate to have three days of perfect sunshine—quite the contrast from last year's snowy conditions! This allowed students to make the most of our time in the mountain bike park and explore lots of different terrain. There had been a lot of rain on the day before us arriving which made for a few damp trails on Wednesday afternoon.
The class was very impressive on their bikes over the 3 days. All 27 students participated in the tough 'assessment trail' which is a timed course on Translator Road, Hepi Highway, The Water Race and Collarbone Alley. One student recorded a time within 2 seconds of the school record! All students had a brilliant attitude and gave it their all.
We also made the most of the swimming dam, cooling off after the hot days on the trails. Another highlight was the competitive nacho competition, which saw everyone battling it out for the title of nacho champion.
To wrap up the trip, the group enjoyed a team lunch at Waipiata Pub, a perfect end to a valuable few days spent together. Back in the classroom, students have been busy reflecting on their experience, analysing the effectiveness of their risk management strategies. They’ve been discussing what worked well, what didn’t, and how they can improve next time.
A huge thank you to Monty Wong, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Earl for giving up their time to join us on this adventure. The trip was very memorable with lots of growth and leadership shown.
