Trinity Book Week 2024

Trinity Book Week was a fantastic celebration of the written word, imagination, and the joy of reading.

Trinity Book Week has been a school-wide celebration allowing us to honour the written word, ignite our imaginations, and embrace our love of reading.

Our Year 7-9 Te Timataka cohort participated in a variety of activities, including literature quizzes and reading challenges. The highlight was the ever-popular Chalk Art Design Challenge, where students unleashed their creativity by redesigning popular book covers. The winning designs were truly eye-catching.

Our Year 7 and 8 classes enjoyed the 'Free the Teacher' library challenge. This escape room-style activity involved the class teacher being chained and padlocked to a chair. Teams of students had to solve literacy-centered questions to uncover the secret word that would unlock the padlock and release their teacher. This thrilling activity always brings lots of fun and excitement, especially as students relish the chance to 'imprison' their teacher!

This year, we were honoured to host award-winning children's author Swapna Haddow, who spoke to our junior school. Swapna captivated us with her journey as a reader and author and graciously participated in a Q&A session with questions submitted by our students. Many of our aspiring authors took this opportunity to glean wisdom from a successful author.

Book Week culminated in our Dress as a Book Character Day, a highly anticipated event for both students and staff. One student from each year level was selected as best dressed and received a book voucher prize. The creativity and ingenuity displayed in our students' costumes were truly inspiring. This year, we also asked for a gold coin donation from participants on Dress as a Book Character Day, with the funds benefiting the Edmund Rice Camps of Dunedin.

Book Week at Trinity Catholic College has once again proven to be a delightful celebration of reading and imagination, bringing our school community together in a shared love for books.
