Athletics Day

In the same week that our city welcomed home ex-pupil and now world champion, Erika Fairweather with her gold, silver, and bronze medals from the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, our own athletes performed very well at the second-ever Trinity Catholic College Athletics Day.
Held on Monday 19 February at the Caledonian, the fiercely competitive house spirit of Athletics Day was not diminished by the occasional rain showers. The success of the day reflected the efforts of teachers, house prefects, and competitors, as well as all the behind-the-scenes helpers.
Three school records were broken at the 2024 Athletics Day:
Eamon Henderson (Year 7) broke the U12 boys 400m record which was initially set in 1998 by Marcus Hand (1.10.08). Eamon's time was an impressive 1.10.00.
Eamon also broke the U12 boys high jump record set by Ola Shittu in 2021 (1.35m) by jumping a height of 1.37m.
Rhiannon Anaya Vera Llamas (Year 10) broke the longstanding U14 girls 200m sprint record set in 1993 by Paula Giles (28.59 seconds). Rhiannon’s new record was set at a time of 28.00 seconds.
Congratulations to the winners of all the events, and to McAuley House for winning first place in the house competition. It was great to see so many people participate in healthy competition with such great team spirit.
