On Monday Judge Andrew Beecroft, visited the school to meet with a small group of students.
The Children's Commissioner's Act 2003 provides the Commissioner with a primary role to advocate for all New Zealand children under the age of 18 years. The Children’s Commissioner has a statutory obligation to ensure “the views of children are taken into account in the exercise or performance of the Commissioner’s functions”. His Office also encourage other organisations to support children and young people to have a voice in matters that affect them, as New Zealand is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
One of the means by which the Office of the Children’s Commissioner supports Aotearoa’s children and young people to have a voice is through Mai World, their child and youth voices project. Kavanagh College has been involved in these survey’s this year and the meeting on Monday was another means to gather ideas about issues affecting youth.
