SUPER HERO DOGS

The Science Options Class (SAS or Serious about Science) has been working on a new unit called Super Hero Dogs.
Mrs Thomson has been helping Invermay-based trust, K9MD. K9 Medical Detection NZ Charitable Trust's aim is to improve the health of New Zealanders by specifically training dogs in a controlled clinical environment to assist in the detection of cancer. The test could allow early detection of cancer in a non-invasive way which could pave the way for better patient outcomes.
Using the class as "guinea pigs", we are developing a new unit that may be able to be rolled out to schools in the future. So far, the unit has had a look into the amazing abilities that animals have such as vision, hearing and smell. Activities have included an eye dissection and a visit from Magic, one of K9MD's stunning dogs. Magic has been trained to detect bowel cancer but he is also making a name for himself in public relations since he is simply gorgeous!
Thanks to Lynette and Peter for giving up their time to visit.
