A week spent in the most spectacular outdoor classroom in Aotearoa-New Zealand
Kia ora rā koutou - Greetings everyone.
In Week 8, students from Year 10 Māori Studies, Year 13 mentor Savanah Kamura and 2017 Deputy Head Boy, Niko Cockerell spent a week in the most spectacular outdoor classroom in Aotearoa-New Zealand - Deep Cove, Pātea/Doubtful Sound.
We experienced Fiordland at it's best with torrential rain and beautiful sunshine. Our students enjoyed a mixture of tramping, fishing and sightseeing. On Wednesday, we set sail and cruised on a sailing ship to Kā Tū Waewae o Tū/Secretary Island and Te Tai-o-Rehua/Tasman Sea. A highlight of this cruise was sailing into Hall Arm right under a large waterfall that was falling onto the bow of the boat. Our students were given a cup and filled it up whilst getting absolutely soaked! What a stunning place Pātea/Doubtful Sound is - and it's right on our doorstep.
A big thank you to Debi & Stan Dysart and Craig Bryant for the parent support. Next year, our group will venture to Kōtuku/Martins Bay via the Whakatipu Kā Tuka/Hollyford River. Mauri ora!
