Principal's Message

Kia ora tātou, Talofa lava

I enjoyed the chance to be part of our special Academic Blues Awards evening on Tuesday night at Toitū. Celebrating this individual and collective academic success brought with it a feeling of satisfaction that we ‘got the job done’ even in a difficult year. Thank you to our speaker, Amy Marslin, who spoke about her own experience which went beyond academics and created a gospel-values based foundation for her future life and work in law. Amy also spoke fondly of the friends made at Kavanagh who are still an important part of her life. The strong connections between students and the loyalty of ex-students, even from St Paul’s and Moreau College days, is something I have noticed since I joined Kavanagh, and I assure you this is different to what I have found in most schools. We are looking to refresh and re-invigorate the alumni association this year and formalise some of this loyalty and networking so, if you fit into this category, watch out for more news about this later in the year.

It has been a busy week for some year levels and there will be tired students this weekend! The year 13 retreats and the year 7 camps are going very well and are forging new friendships and strengthening old ones. We have a number of students competing in the Otago Secondary Schools Athletics Competition on Saturday and we wish them all the best in their pursuit of personal excellence.

A Prayer for Friendship

Dear Lord, teach me to love others the way you first loved me. As I build relationships with others, let them see you in the extent of my generosity, the authenticity of my kindness, and the depths of my love. All of those things are only possible through you, the God who abides with me and calls me friend. Amen.
