Deipa did an outstanding job at representing Kavanagh College with a prepared and impromptu speech over the weekend.
Although Deipa Sivaraman is new to Kavanagh College she was eager to represent her new school at the prestigious regional Lions speech contest. Stakes are high in this competition with the winner being flown to Wellington for the New Zealand final and the New Zealand finalist winning a six week trip to Canada and America in the summer holidays.
Deipa's prepared speech touched home with a lot of people. She discussed the reality of discrimination in many sectors of our community and delivered a powerful speech, engaging the audience the entire time.
The impromptu speech title "Should New Zealand have a Military" was thoroughly discussed by all participants, making it a hard competition to judge.
Logan Park High School took home the title of the competition. This, however, did not deter Deipa. She is very excited to get back into the ring next year and now has insight into the criteria to reach for the American Prize.
Well done Deipa, Kavanagh is proud to have you represent our school!
