A Message from our Principal

I love this time of the school year. Yes, it is busy, as senior staff work in two years at once – completing 2024, prepping for 2025, employing new staff, and ensuring next year’s calendar is well underway. But it is a time of great reflection and it is important that we take a breath, step back and appreciate the school year that has been. Our senior students only have two weeks left of school before they leave for NCEA external exams, and many of them have their post-school plans underway with scholarships secured, work and apprenticeships signed up, and courses getting confirmed. The next couple of weeks are full of awards nights, prizegivings and final events. I never cease to be in awe of our young ones who achieve so much in and out of the classroom, taking up opportunities that build confidence, and help to develop a true sense of self as they push boundaries and test themselves in new environments. Today’s newsletter is full of congratulations to students who have achieved awards and won competitions and tournaments over the last few weeks. We know that taking up new opportunities and moving outside of their comfort zone while still in the security of school and family settings, is a great way to prepare for life beyond school. Thank you for working with us in partnership to allow your young ones to flourish.

This evening we are hosting the Catholic Schools’ Kāhui Ako Pacific Learners night. We look forward to watching some of the Polyfest performances from our schools, have time for talanoa, and the sharing of food together. I encourage all our Pacific families to come along and spend time together.

Last night at the Cultural Awards Evening, we had a great celebration of the cultural and arts life of the college. Congratulations to all those who received awards and I would like to thank the staff who work tirelessly to make sure that this part of school life continues to be held in very high regard by the wider community. Next Tuesday night, we will hold the Sports Awards, and I look forward to seeing and hearing all the successes to be celebrated and acknowledged.

While life gets busier in the lead up to the end of the year, let’s take time to remember those in need of our prayers, whether through illness, loss or upset in family life and relationships.

God Bless,

Mrs Kate Nicholson
