Over the weekend of 15th - 16th March, Trinity Catholic College had two debating teams competing in the Regional Secondary Schools Debating Finals.
The Trinity Debating Club was excited to compete in the Regional Finals over the past weekend, and this much anticipated event was held at the Otago University Business School. Trinity had two teams competing (Trinity 1 and Trinity 2), and the weekend of competition was full of energy, entertainment and amazing results.
Teams
Trinity 1: Akein Wickramagedara, Joseph Kelly and Chē McGivern
Trinity 2: Skyla Knopp, Xavier Fuss and Ben Fischer
Results
Trinity 1: Runner up to Columba 1. 6 out of 8 wins overall (both losses to Columba one in the heats and one in the final)
Trinity 2: 5th equal out of 18 teams! This was a Year 9/10 team, and over the weekend they were beating Year 11 and 12 teams, which was impressive. They had 4 out of 6 wins with the two losses to Trinity 1!
Chē McGivern received the best speaker award and was selected for the Otago team.
Akein Wickramagedara was selected as a reserve for the Otago team.
Joseph Kelly won the best style award and was selected for the development squad.
Unfortunately Juniors were not eligible for selection in the development squad, but the future is certainly looking bright for Trinity Catholic College Debating!
A great weekend for Trinity. Well done to all ākonga involved!
