Meet Our New Staff

My name is Hamish Sutherland. I am a former student and teacher of Kavanagh College. I have been teaching for over 20 years. 

The last 12 years I have been working at St Bernard's College in Wellington. My wife Dee and our three children, Ellie, Freya and Charlie have moved back to Dunedin to be closer to friends and family. Kavanagh was the obvious choice. I am the co- Director of Religious Education Religious Education and a Y12 Kaiārahi. 

Outside of family and teaching I am a keen mountain biker and have been competing in Ultra-distance trail running over the last few years. 

I have been amazed and humbled at the love and generosity in the welcome I have experienced by staff and students since beginning 2022. I truly believe that Kavanagh is my Turangawaewae - my place to stand.
