Kia ora, Talofa lava. Malo e leilei
We are enjoying a wonderful week of celebration and good wishes as our seniors prepare to move into study leave in preparations for the NCEA externals that are looming. We are also conscious of the mixed emotions that our Year 13 students will be experiencing as they look to transition from a secure, well-known, environment into the next stage of their lives. I look forward to experiencing my first Kavanagh College prizegiving, and I will hopefully have an opportunity to meet many of you this evening.
As part of this celebration week, I would like to acknowledge Caleb Kelekolio and Star Uriaro who were awarded the senior and junior Otago Pasifika Awards respectively, for Kavanagh College at the Otago Polytechnic last night. On Friday night we will celebrate with Grace Apuwai-Bishop (tuakana), and Erika Fairweather (teina) as they represent Kavanagh College as our Mana Pounamu recipients for 2019. Congratulations to all these students.
We wish Luca Holloway (Year 10) all the very best as he aims to replicate his success from 2018, this Saturday in Wellington at the National Spelling Bee Championship. If you wish to watch the livestream of this event, please use this link https://live1.r2.co.nz/20191102
All Saints and All Souls
This week we celebrate two significant days in the Church’s Liturgical Year. The Feast of All Saints is celebrated on 1st November to honour all the saints known and unknown. This is followed on the 2nd November by the Feast of All Souls. On this special day in the Liturgical Year we pray for those who have died, that they ‘may rest in peace’. Please remember in your prayers all those from the Kavanagh College community who have passed away this year, particularly Mr Tracy O’Brien, Peter Sewell and Ana QimaQima.
Warmest regards,
Kate Nicholson
