Inspiring Girls Expeditions and the Antarctic Research Centre have teamed up to create a wonderful opportunity for young women

Girls on Ice Expedition 2025

Tuition-free expedition to Mt Ruapehu, January 2025, for 15–16-year-old girls.

Promoting science as a career pathway for young women, through field science, art, and outdoor exploration.

Inspiring Girls Expeditions and the Antarctic Research Centre at Te Herenga Waka — Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) welcome applications from students throughout New Zealand to join our second expedition.

Girls on Ice offers secondary school-aged girls the opportunity to learn alongside scientists, outdoor specialists and artists on mountain expeditions within NZ. Tuition is free, apart from travel between home and Wellington.

Comments from 2024 participants:

“I really enjoyed learning about so many different things in such a vast range of areas and it really confirmed that I want to pursue a career in environmental sciences.”

“I want to involve myself in as many things as I can. Even if I think it won't be fun, even if I really don't want to, I should just do it. What’s stopping me from participating? Who knows what I'll learn...”

“The expedition made me appreciate my life and where I live a lot more. Meeting girls with so many different backgrounds was really eye opening and I found it so cool that we bonded despite our differences. It taught me that I can be a good leader if I set my mind to it.”

Inspiring Girls Expeditions welcomes female-identifying, non-binary, and intersex students.

Please share this with all your students who have an interest in science and the great outdoors!
