Talofa Lava, Tēnā koutou
Last week the Year 9 reo Māori class celebrated Gagana Sāmoa and Sāmoan Language Week by inviting two senior students Caramelrose and Melina to introduce us to their Sāmoan language and dance.
Cara and Melina gave a one hour language lesson teaching us the alphabet and some Sāmoan greetings. They showed the students how some Sāmoan words are very similar to Māori words such as Fia ‘ai = hiakai (hungry) and Fia ‘inu = hiainu (thirsty). We were very lucky to have them return again on Friday morning to introduce the students to Sāmoan dance.
Ngā mihi nunui ki a kōrua Caramelrose rāua ko Melina. Fa‘afetai tele lava!
