TE RĀ NUI KI WAHO

Yesterday the Year 5 & 6 class from St Peter Chanel school visited Kavanagh College for the final Te rā nui ki waho (The big day out) of 2020. The students were accompanied by tumuaki (principal) Mrs Claire Peters and kaiako (teacher) Mr Jeremy Morgan. 

The students were full of energy and were met by Mr Adamson who escorted the students to the computer lab for a digital technology session. Ngā Motu The Islands is a Māori biome or world in Minecraft that is set in a remote part of Aotearoa-New Zealand 350 years ago. The students completed two digital technology challenges and produced some beautiful work. After morning tea, it was off to the gymnasium for a high energy Physical Education lesson before returning to finish off the Mahimania (Minecraft) challenge.Head of Science, Mrs Kerron Thomson, taught the students for an afternoon hands-on science lesson where they conducted a number of melting and combustion experiments. 

Thank you to the former SPC students who assisted as mentors: Joe Peters, Monty Stace, Liam Sitherland, Hineaupounamu Parata-Wineti, Jake Harris and Paige Clark.
