ROOM TOROA - ST JOSEPH'S CATHEDRAL SCHOOL

Room Toroa and teacher Mrs Amanda McKewen from St Joseph's Cathedral School visited the college yesterday. Every second Wednesday, Kavanagh College plays host to one of our Catholic primary schools and it fair to say that the big sea birds had a great day of learning and fun. The Big Day Out began with a welcome and a Kahoot quiz about Minecraft. For period two the students swapped keyboards for running shoes as they participated in a high-energy Physical Education lesson with Mr Ian Adamson and a Year 7 class. The students enjoyed freshly baked cookies and a hot chocolate for morning tea. The digital technology challenge continued with the students collaborating to create a wharenui (meeting house) or kāinga (traditional village) in Minecraft.

After a delicious pizza lunch, the students spent the afternoon with Mrs Kerron Thomson in the science laboratories where they conducted a range of melting and combustion experiments. The Year 7 mentor students who assisted yesterday were fantastic and I would like to thank: Bella Aisi-Griffin, Serah Joby, Ben and Liam Davis, Ola Shittu, Cooper Pauley, Joseph Tupai, Karl Caragay and Joseph Chinula.

For the afternoon session Year 9 students and former St Joe's pupils, Holly Waterworth, Eirean Artus, Jessica Tupai, Ryleigh Makiiti and Charlesiana Njoko did a great job in supporting our visitors.

In week two of next term, we look forward to hosting Miss Natalie Paterson and Room Hoiho from St Joseph's Cathedral School.
