Book Week 2022

Our first ever Book Week was a great success. A fantastic way to celebrate reading and literacy.
Wow! What a fun and busy Book Week we had! Our Year 7 and 8 classes had a great time attempting to 'Free their Teacher'. This Escape Room-Esque activity involved 5 teams per class. They had questions to solve and codes to crack to uncover the secret word that would unlock the padlock and release their teacher. There were some impressive problem-solving skills on show, but most of all everyone had a lot of fun. I am pleased to say no teachers were harmed during these activities!
We ran two library competitions: Guess the Book and Design a Bookmark. Our two winners of Guess the Book were Charlotte Williams and Sophie Hoexum who both won a canteen voucher. The Design a Bookmark competition is still running. Watch this space next week for our winners.
As part of Book Week Te Timatanga took part in a range of challenges in class. They had reading challenges, quizzes, and students had to work with peers to redesign a book cover using chalk art. For the redesign and book cover, students worked together to decide which book to use and plan a static image for that book. They had to consider the dominant image, use of space, use of colour and font. Look below for examples of the spectacular creations of our talented students.
Book Week culminated in our Dress as a Book Character Day. This was a great way to celebrate our favourite books. We were amazed at everyone's creativity and choices. The library was buzzing with excitement as students guessed each other's outfits. One student from each year was chosen as best dressed. Their prize was a $20 book voucher. Look below for photos. Well done Kavanagh on a great Book Week!
