Principal's Message

Greetings

This week, as we approach the end of term two, we farewell one of our long-term employees, Mrs Gillian Smillie. Gillian has taught at Kavanagh since 2003 and in that time, she has taught graphics, hard and soft material technologies, digital technologies, inquiry and art. In the eighteen years she has been at Kavanagh she has seen thousands of students move through our school and contributed in many ways towards their development as young adults including involvement in netball and basketball. Gillian is looking forward to a change of pace as she moves into a new phase of life and I am sure there will be a few stories told as we farewell her tomorrow. We wish her well.

In other staff news, we wish to congratulate Mr Brent Ford on the birth of his new daughter Sadie Rose. I am sure that he will be looking forward to the opportunity to spend some extra time as a new family during the holiday break.

We have made a change to our Open Day start time on August 2 to 12.30pm. Because of the now scheduled Highlanders game during that afternoon, we did not want to upset family plans by running into this scheduling clash. Because we were pretty sure the Highlanders wouldn’t change their start time for us, we felt the need to be proactive! Please pass on this information to anyone you know who may be coming to visit us that day.

Term Three is shaping up to be one of the busiest terms in a long time. Many activities previously postponed due to the disrupted year, have now been put back into the calendar. I encourage all our students to take time to fully rest and recharge during the next two weeks, so they are ready for a full and exciting term three.

Take care of one another and stay safe and happy during the holidays.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kate Nicholson
