On behalf of the Edmund Rice Justice Trust, Farid Ahmed ONZM spoke with Trinity College year 12 and 13 students on Tuesday 5th of September in the College Auditorium.
Farid was forced to leave his home country of Bangladesh as a 26 year old. He was paralysed in an accident in 1998. Farid is a survivor of the Al Noor Mosque Shooting in Christchurch in 2019. During this attack Farid lost many brothers and sisters of his faith community but most tragically for Farid, his wife, Husna.
Farid spoke to our students regarding his experience of forgiveness and compassion and also his strong commitment to spend the rest of his life advocating for peace, unity and forgiveness. Since 2019 Farid has worked tirelessly to build "Unity in Diversity".
Farid's talk was extremely relevant as it is Social Justice Week. The theme for Social Justice week 2023 in Aotearoa is ‘Imagine Peace for All/ Pohewatia te Rangimārie mō te Katoa.’
It was an absolute honour to hear Farid share his message of love, hope and forgiveness. He challenged us all to see every person we encounter as a brother and sister of God.
One Human Family.
