Kavanagh College Hockey teams continue to perform well in local competitions
GIRLS
The girls finally had a full team and even had a sub as players returned from sickness, They played some great hockey for most of the game and kept Taieri at bay but had a bad spell of five minutes and in the blink of an eye they were three goals down. The last five minutes saw them hard on attack and really deserved a goal or two but they couldn't quite get a shot off. A 4-0 loss wasn't a fair reflection of the game. Again Keyra Webb saved numerous goals and Tayler showed great pace to jump on some long balls. The mid field combo of Guin Wilson, Summer Paulin and Hannah Larson is developing nicely and bodes well for the future of Kavanagh hockey. There is constant improvement week on week and a win is just around the corner.
BOYS
The beginning of round two saw us take on OBHS 2nds, a game we won 1-0 in the first round. Determined to show how we have gelled as a team the lads created mayhem with rock solid defence from the full backs, halves and inners plus some awesome saves from Josh Hook in goal. Turning defence into attack we often swept end to end to score. The midfield has developed a sweet passing game which formed an irrepressible attack which at times had their defence falling over each other and the goalie turned inside out as eight goals flew by him. Nick Parata and Sam Sherrif both scored hat tricks, with Fletcher Thomson slotting another great goal. Ellery Campbell opened his ledger with a cracking goal. Thanks to Laura Flett for jumping on to give us a sub.
Special congratulations to Nick Parata and Jackson Parata for being selected into Southern Hockey teams who will compete in tournaments over the school holidays. Go Well.
