ĀRAITEURU MARAE VISIT

By Tim Lucas | Posted: Wednesday November 22, 2017

The sun shone brightly and the temperatures soared as our Year 7 classes visited Āraiteuru marae this week. The students experienced a mihi whakatau (formal welcome) and spent the day learning about rāranga (weaving), rongoā (bush medicine), mau rakau (martial arts with long sticks), taonga pūoro (traditional instruments) and kōrero o mua (stories from the past). Isaac Tili from mighty 7WLF said "When you're on the marae, it seems like life goes at a slower pace. Today was really cool."

A big thank you to marae staff, Mrs Kerr-Bell, Mr Wolfreys, Miss Henderson, Alex Whittiker from LEOTC and students from Year 9 & 10 Māori Studies assisted in a tuakana-teina role.
