Our year 7 & 8 Kavanagh Students competed last week on the 10th August at the Taieri Sports Interchange. Great weather and a great day in Mosgiel.
Our students were welcomed by a beautiful Waiata and Haka from the year 7&8 Students from Taieri College. Mr Hola responded with a thank you to our hosts in his native tongue Tongan language. The day was only about to get started on high for both schools with this grand opening.
Outstanding individual skills and team play were all displayed from all our Kavanagh students and coaches. This meant that we were in for a great day in expecting to be competitive in this year’s 2022 interchange.
The morning kicked off with our mini ball and netball teams. Very competitive and positive attitude shown by our Kavanagh students with outstanding results:
Miniball 7/8 Girls: 32 - 5 Win to Kavanagh College
Miniball 7A Boys: 39 - 18 Win to Taieri College
Miniball 7B Boys: 31 - 21 Win to Taieri College
Miniball 8A Boys: 33 - 25 Win to Kavanagh College
Netball 7A: 25 - 1 Win to Taieri College
Netball 7B: 11 - 6 Win to Kavanagh
Netball 8A: 20 - 12 Win to Taieri College
Netball 8B: Two Point Win to Kavanagh College
Later in that morning we saw our rugby team take the field against a mighty strong Taieri rugby team. Again, the guts and heart shown by our students added with St Mary’s Mosgiel boys show nothing less but play for each other till the final whistle. Rugby: 64 - 15 Win to Taieri College
The afternoon was going to shape up as another tough match between our Footballers and Hockey team. Football took away the treats in a spectacular victory 2-1 to Kavanagh.
Our hockey team were outstanding playing with heart and passion and being competitive against one of the strong teams of Otago Hockey competition losing 11-2.
The final prize giving put everyone on edge with final results being delivered, overall: 6 - 5 Win to Taieri College edging away with the 2022 Interchange trophy. A well-deserved victory to Taieri College.
A massive thank you to all our volunteers and parent coaches, student coaches and staff that all supported this great day. We appreciate you all.
We look forward to the 2023 Sports Interchange.
Thank you
