A Message from our Principal

This is our final newsletter of the year and by now you may have received school reports and you have your young ones home for the holidays – hopefully helping out with housework and cleaning out school bags!

At the end of this year we farewell a number of students whose families are leaving Dunedin. We wish you all the very best for wherever your next journey takes you. Thank you for being part of our college community.

As a staff we are saying goodbye and thank you to three of our colleagues. Mrs Skye Haig has worked in the Learning Support area in recent years as both a Learning Assistant and a specialist teacher creating and delivering learning programmes for some of our learning support students. We wish Skye well as she ventures out into the wider world of teaching.

Ms Sarah Tsukigawa has been at our place for nearly fifteen years. During this time she has taught in various areas of the college, most recently as Head of History and Social Inquiry. Sarah was also a very important part of the early Kāhui Ako leadership team. Many of you will know that Sarah was an impressive NZ White Ferns player for a number of years, and I know she is already enjoying her new role as a selector with NZ Cricket – a job that will give her a new challenge and plenty of satisfaction in the years to come. We hope that Sarah will continue to be involved in some relief teaching next year and beyond.

Ms Julie Caparn has taught French, German and ESL over many years, and she has taken groups of French students to New Caledonia, and accompanied many a student ski trip and outdoor education camp, among other activities. Julie is finishing her teaching career this year but I know she won’t stay still for long and an overseas bike tour is already on her calendar!

Thank you to these three women for their service to Trinity and to Catholic education.

I would like to give a personal thank you to our students, parents and whānau for all the ways you have supported Trinity Catholic College this year. This is a very special community, and whether you have supported our performing arts events, helped with coaching, managing or transporting sports teams, provided afternoon tea for our Open Day, popped into the staffroom or office with baking from time to time, or simply shared good news of our college out in the wider community – thank you. As part of our wider college whānau, you are as much a part of our college as those regularly on-site.

Have a very blessed and holy Christmas and enjoy this special time with family and friends.

God Bless

Mrs Kate Nicholson
