Principal's Message

The college is in full swing now with plenty of learning, sports and cultural practices, and clubs opportunities well underway for the year. Classrooms are looking good as I visit areas of the college, with students settled and taking pride in their work. Thank you, as parents and whanau, for your ongoing influence and encouragement of your children.

We are very pleased to announce our scholarship students from 2019. Rosa Latton (pictured below) gained a Scholarship in Statistics and Tobias Devereux gained an Outstanding Scholarship in Calculus (pictured below with Mr Kelly). These two students worked hard to prepare thoroughly for these examinations and I would also like to thank the staff who tutored and prepared these students. Rosa and Tobias particularly deserve accolades for this achievement because they were only Year 12 and Year 11 respectively when they sat these exams last year. Well done to both of you!

Later today, our staff will attend the annual Commissioning Mass at Mercy Parish. We will come together with all the staff of Catholic schools in the Dunedin area and commit ourselves again to the work we do within our schools. Our new staff will also be ‘commissioned’ during the Mass. These staff will introduce themselves to you over the next couple of weeks.

This coming Monday (weather permitting!) we have our annual Athletics Sports. We encourage our wider community to join in this event which will celebrate the athletes among our students, as well as our sense of community and house spirit. This year we would encourage all our year 7-10 students, as well as our seniors, to wear their house colours. However, this is still a day of competition and all students must be able to compete seriously in what they are wearing. Out of respect for those who clean the facilities, we ask that students do not bring face paint to the event. Instead, our House Leaders will have small amounts of face paint to apply to students who may want this on the day.

As we get into routines and the shine of a new year begins to dull, let’s remember to continue doing the little things well, including the little things that Jesus asks us to do through the gospels.
