Principal's Message

Greetings, Kia ora, Talofa, Malo e lei

It has been a busy term for our sports teams and today the Dunedin Co-Ed Secondary Schools Sports Tournament is being held. Five schools are involved and at the time of writing the tournament has just begun.

Also a reminder to parents of students in Year 11 – 13 that Parent Teacher Interviews are being held in the first week of term, on Thursday 26th July. As we have just passed the halfway mark of the academic school year it is important you take the opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers to get an update on progress. Please book online (the instructions are in this newsletter) and bring your child with you to the interviews with the teachers. This helps to avoid any misunderstandings and ensures your child is part of the learning conversation.

Staff have been busy working on the Year 7 – 10 reports which will be issued to students on Friday 6th July.

The Government has many reviews currently underway including some that will have an impact on schools including Curriculum - Progress & Achievement, Tomorrow’s Schools (funding and oversight) as well as the NCEA Review. With respect to the NCEA review it is important that the government receives feedback from all stakeholders – parents, employers, community groups, tertiary providers as well as teachers. I would encourage you to have your say, including completing an online survey at http://www.conversation.education.govt.nz

Finally, Mr O’Brien is hoping to return to school next week with his eyesight not yet back to normal but improving by the day. I know he is looking forward to returning to work.

God Bless
Steve Read
