Principal's Message

With senior exam week behind us, staff and students are getting a clearer picture of where we stand as we move toward the final academic phase of the year. It is vital everyone takes an honest look at where they are in terms of credits and do any remedial work necessary. Thanks to our staff, many of whom are offering catch up or tutorial sessions to ensure every student can maximise their learning outcomes for the year.

On the sporting front, congratulations to our Senior Boys' Hockey who won their division last week against Otago Boys in a come from behind 3-2 win. Our 1st XI Football lost their final to Boys High 3-1 at Forsyth Barr but still performed with distinction throughout the season. Getting through to the final in the premier grade was fantastic. This week is National Tournament week with all teams performing well both home and away. A stunning South Island title to our Junior Girls Basketball defeating Otago Girls in Ashburton. Congratulations ladies-outstanding!

As usual, there is plenty on the calendar to keep us all occupied. In the background, a ton of work has been done by our schools on the formation of our Catholic Community of Learning -Kahui Ako. This includes Kavanagh and our nine Catholic Primary schools. This collaboration will see us working on common goals initially around literacy and numeracy as well as sharing expertise and knowledge. Most of all though, it will bring us closer together as a singular Catholic community dedicated to high-quality learning, pastoral and special character goals and outcomes.

Next week we have a number of students performing in the Otago Schools Polynesian festival. Good luck to our junior Kapa Haka and Pasifika Vibes teams. Let's get out to the Edgar Centre and support them. Kia Kaha!
