KŌRERO Ō MUA

To finish off the visits for term three, I visited St Mary's Kaikorai on Monday of this week. Manaakitanga means hospitality and/or kindness and the school expressed this beautifully by singing Ka Waiata during the mihi whakatau (welcome) followed by a cup of tea in the staff room with principal, Corinne Guthrie and teachers.

I was impressed by the creativity of the student's work in the classrooms especially the bright and colourful Matariki artwork. The junior and senior classes were respectful and asked some great questions as I read Māori stories and told a few of my favourite local tales like the story of Mako Mako the taniwha who now resides on Saddle Hill.

It is wonderful to see this school growing and credit must go to Mrs Guthrie, staff, Board of Trustees and community for ensuring St Mary's Kaikorai continues to flourish.
