Year 8 Camp Report

Camp is one of those experiences that don’t happen often, so you really have to make the most of it. This was especially true for Camp Columba, which was the camp year 8 went to a week ago (22-25/11/22).
Camp is a very emotional time for a lot of people, homesickness making people unable to fully enjoy themselves. But despite that feeling of homesickness, camp never fails to be a once in a lifetime experience full of once in a lifetime experiences.
Camp is full of things you would barely do usually including, abseiling, rock climbing, zip lining, kayaking and an escape room, just to name a few.
Year 8 goes to camp by bus, and I find when you’re in a bus, every little thing you see out the window (such as sheep or little trees) seems much more exciting to the point where it is very important to point out every animal that we drive past.
The food at Camp is also surprisingly good! We had three main meals every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, eating creates dishes, and dishes need to be done. Every day, a different activity group (which is the group you were assigned at the beginning of camp) was assigned dish duty. Surprisingly, dish duty was one of the most enjoyable parts of camp for me, we would sing and wash and it was all around a very good time!
The most difficult part of school camp is always sleeping, but not only were the cabins nice, but sleeping was pretty easy. Homesickness did affect some people, but they all went to sleep eventually and woke up refreshed in the morning.
