Principal's Message

Easter Greetings
I am sure that many of us are remembering this time a year ago, when we went into a lockdown Easter holiday. In remembering this, I am constantly grateful for the energy gained from working at Kavanagh College. Being surrounded by teenagers every day certainly provides an environment and momentum that you can’t get anywhere else!
This week, I am grateful for our staff who deserve a long weekend. Their commitment is unquestionable. For long hours in preparation for new integrated studies programmes, caring for the pastoral needs of our students and wider community, preparing and marking NCEA assessments, organising and running camps and sporting opportunities, preparing thoroughly for parent teacher interviews, attending weekend school events - and spending every Sunday in musical practices, dealing with the urgent and important but unplanned for happenings that occur in an environment of 700 people, missing lunch breaks most days because they want to catch up with students or run debating, chess, rugby skills, clubs .... I am grateful.
However, rewards are gained from effort, and this week the staff involved with preparation for the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Competition were rewarded with a big win in the regionals and the chance to accompany Troy Kubala, Amalie Latton and Kate Kelly (director) to the national competition in Wellington. Congratulations!
On your behalf, I wish our very humble Head Girl, Erika Fairweather, all the very best for the coming days while she competes in the 2021 Aon NZ Swimming Champs. Kia kaha, Erika!
Today, we look forward to two separate and meaningful liturgies commemorating Holy Thursday, and Good Friday, along with sharing of lunch together, followed by a celebration of the Resurrection with a liturgy on Wednesday when we return to school. Thank you to Kathleen O’Kane and Pesamino Tili, our DRS’s, and the special character prefects, who have put considerable time into organising this.
Have a blessed and happy Easter break, grateful for the chance to spend it out and about with friends and family and making the most of our beautiful country.
