Catholic Schools Connect Through Gifted and Talented Learning Programme

The welcome was launched with a heartwarming Mihi Whakatau led by members of the Kavanagh College Kapa Haka group. Students from both schools represented their schools well with their waiata, shared kai together, and through ice-breaking activities got to know each other well. A highlight of the event was both groups partaking in a hongi, where the young children of Saint Mary’s blended with the secondary school students.

The learning hub is a collaborative outreach initiative to foster and build relationships in the Catholic Schools Community of Learning. Saint Mary's provides the ideal space for this opportunity to flourish and Kavanagh College is proudly supporting the hub through staffing and resources. The students will have a fun, yet challenging first year ahead while the new learning opportunity is put into practice for the first time. Through this students will be challenged to develop their skills in empathy, in critical thinking, as well as self-directed learning through a year long passion project. We look forward the project presentations which will be the pinnacle of the year in Term Four.
