Girls Report

From the first whistle, Kavanagh attacked hard against Queen’s High School with Hannah Larson and Summer Paulin linking well together, forcing the ball into our attack and Cody Paulsen working hard up front and creating the play. Once again Sophie Wallis dominated against Queen’s defence coming out on top and slotting Kavanagh’s first goal of the game. With high hopes, Kavanagh continued their strong attack gaining several penalty corners. Wallis again managed to score. Paddy Craft stayed strong throughout the entire game out on the wing and with patience, scored the third goal.  Kavanagh up three nil at halftime.

After the team talk, again Kavanagh came out determined in the second half. After taking an attacking ball, Wallis composed yet another, aiming for the bottom right corner of the goal. Kavanagh’s full-backs Ruby LaHood and Beth Sutherland managed to keep Queen’s out of their attacking circle. After some rounds of feeding the ball back and forth between Kavanagh and Queen’s in our attacking circle, we manage to gain our last penalty corner of the game. Hannah Larason gave this penalty corner a crack and, with luck, she scored the fifth goal of the game. In the end, Kavanagh put in a good fight the entire game against Queen’s and came out with the results they worked hard for.

Boys Report

This week the Kavanagh Boys 1st XI Hockey team took on John McGlashan College 2nd XI. The boys came out firing from the first whistle, putting pressure on John McGlashan in all areas of the field and went up early with a great goal, however, JMC were able to respond with a goal of their own shortly after. 

The Kavanagh defence, headed up by Ellery Campbell and Niall Quinn, managed to shut down the JMC attack swiftly and ensured that Kavanagh could continue dominating in the offensive half. Although JMC played very physical and were able to stress the Kavanagh defence, the boys maintained a high intensity and linked up very well to pick holes through the John McGlashan defence. 

Great effort by all the boys, a final score of 6-2, and the team is ready to repeat it all over again as we face off against the John McGlashan College 2nd XI in the final next week.
