Kia Ora Everyone, Hope you’ve had a fantastic week so far!
Welcome back to Week 9 of the Trinity Newsletter!
The upcoming week is well known as Holy Week and during this week we go through the Holy Triduum, this is one liturgy over the period of three days that begins with the Mass of the Last Supper on the evening of Thursday, we commemorate Jesus’ death on Good Friday and then reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil on the Saturday night where we celebrate his resurrection on Sunday. Students you may need this information so read carefully.
Holy Week: The week starts with Palm Sunday where our humble hero enters Jerusalem on a donkey and people welcome him with joyful praises and the waving of palm leaves. During the week churches hold evenings for Reconciliation and the Mass of the Holy Oils is celebrated.
'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' Hosanna in the highest!” - Matthew 21:9
TRIDUUM: One Liturgy over three days.
The First Day: The Mass of the Lord's Last Supper is on Holy Thursday evening. This day is when we commemorate the last supper Jesus had with his Apostles. At this Mass he gifted us the Eucharist and instituted the Priesthood. During that night he was also arrested at the garden of Gethsemane from where he was taken to be put on Trial then crucified.
“For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me” - 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
The Second Day: Good Friday. This is where we commemorate Jesus’ death and then have the veneration of the cross where we will kneel, bow, or kiss the cross in remembrance of Jesus and all that he has done for us, as he has died for the sins we committed, which shows how much he loves all his people.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” - John 3:16
The Third Day: Holy Saturday, this is the evening of the Easter Vigil. On this evening we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but also the defeat of death and the hope of salvation for all. The resurrection of Jesus gives hope to us all to find salvation after death and to be reunited with our loved ones.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” - 1 Peter 1:3
We pray for the community of Trinity Catholic College.
May we grow in Respect for ourselves, each other and our world.
May respect lead to Service to those in need.
Through service may we bring about Justice and, in
justice may we reflect and share the Truth of the Gospels.
This we pray in the spirit of Catherine McAuley, Edmund Rice and St Dominic
With Mary as our guide
Hei ākonga mā te Karaiti
