The NZQA Literacy and Numeracy|Te Reo Matatini me te Pāngarau standards are now a mandatory aspect of the NCEA Level 1 qualification.
All 2024 Year 10 students, and those Year 11 students who didn’t achieve them in 2023, will be attempting the standards on the following dates:
Tuesday 28 May Periods 3&4
Writing
Wednesday 29 May Periods 3&4
Numeracy
Thursday 30 May Periods 3&4
Reading
Friday 31 May Periods 3&4
Catch-ups
Note, students will only be able to catch up on one of the assessments on Friday.
Note also, this is a very busy and difficult time period, including the production being on the week before, so students will need to be prepared well ahead of time.
There will be a second opportunity for all students who require it during September, and two further opportunities each year.
If you’re not sure whether your Year 11 student achieved the standard(s) last year or not:
Your student can login in to their NZQA to check
Your student can communicate with their English and / or Mathematics teacher
You can email me and ask me to check
Students will be working in English and Mathematics classes to prepare for these assessments. Please make contact with your student’s English and Mathematics classroom teacher if you have any questions, or need some guidance, about preparation.
These assessments will be completed digitally using NZQA’s digital assessment platform. Students will be guided through the digital preparation that is required for this including:
Creating and checking NZQA logins
Completing the NZQA digital exams Device check table and Device checklist
Familiarization with the digital assessment platform
It is essential that students have access to a working device (chrome book or laptop) for these assessments. A limited number of spare devices are available for loan. These can be booked by making contact with Nathan Sortehaug - nsortehaug@trinity.school.nz
On the days of the assessments students will need to be prepared with fully charged devices, charging cords and / or powerbanks as a backup, and earphones if they are planning to use text to speech. Text to speech is available to all students.
Students who qualify for Special Assessment Conditions will be catered for according to NZQA examination rules. Please contact Vicky Jones - vjones@trinity.school.nz if you have any questions related to Special Assessment Conditions.
Students should prepare properly and thoroughly for these assessments, however they should also understand that they will have further opportunities every year until they are able to achieve them.
