Principal's Message

Congratulations to everyone who took part in our Athletics Day on Monday.

Despite the rain being more persistent than what was forecast, our young people carried on with a positive attitude, a real sense of whānau and supporting one another, taking part competitively and doing their very best while showing real pride in their House. Attendance at our Athletics Day was higher than it has been in recent years – well done!

I was very fortunate to receive a wall plaque at the end of last year from a family that said ‘Do the Little Things Well’, reflecting on a theme that we used in school during 2020 and 2021. I am pleased that the phrase had ‘stuck’ for the family involved, and I can certainly see it reflected in that senior student’s actions around school. I also saw plenty of that at Athletics Day on Monday. If we want to be the best versions of ourselves, and be all the God cresated us to be, we do need to do the little things well. At school those little things might look like arriving at school on time and ready to learn. It might look like paying attention to uniform and making sure that other people’s time and energy is not wasted having to give reminders about wearing the right shoes, or removing jewellery. It might look like please and thank you at the Office or at the canteen. It might look like persisting with learning activities that are challenging. It might look like calling out poor behaviour by speaking quietly with a trusted staff member, and following through on commitments rather than making excuses and letting other peope down. Habits are learned early and everything we learn in life takes practice. Thank you to all our parents who support and encourage their children to uphold expectations and do the little things well. As I have said many times, school and home needs to be a partnership if our young people are to be successful – let’s work together to encourage them to keep doing the little things well.

Please keep an eye on the school events calendar on the website, For those of you new to Trinity, you will find this on our website at https://www.trinity.school.nz/events-calendar . It is a live calendar, so as things need to be added or changed this will be reflected on the calendar. We do send out reminders of events either via the newsletter or by email as appropriate, but you can also plan ahead by using the calendar.

We will be hosting the Edmund Rice Leadership Camp at Trinity this weekend. Our head student team will be joined by head students from St Kevin’s College (Oamaru), St Thomas of Caterbury College (Christchurch), Liston College and St Peter’s College (Auckland). Thank you to Amelia Bresanello who will run this retreat along with Edmund Rice staff from the other colleges. This will be a great chance for our head students to forge new relationships with students from other schools and learn more about the Edmund Rice Charism and how it can look at our place.

The Blessed Edmund Rice Prayer

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.

He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.

May we follow his example of faith and generosity. Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service,

We ask this through Christ, our Lord,

Amen
