Guest Speaker
Sally Rae – ODT Agribusiness Reporter. Sally was brought up on a sheep farm in North Otago and has a passion for all things rural. She won the Rural Women New Zealand Journalism award for 2017 and has written two books - Gold Dust and Saddle Bags, and The Snow Farmer.
We are looking forward to hearing Sally talk about her day to day role and relationships within the local rural sector. When I contacted her she was heading out to interview the Prime Minister about eradication of mycoplasma bovis.
Year 10 Economics
Kiwifruit case study - Students have been researching the NZ kiwifruit industry consisting of 2,600 growers across 12,185 hectares of land. They are focusing on a case study of Zespri International Limited which is the sole global exporter of NZ kiwifruit. Their research is divided into 5 aspects: Introduction, Going Global (connections and challenges faced), Innovation (eg. new varieties, sustainability), Influences (external and internal), and the Future. They are finding similarities between the dairy industry and the kiwifruit industry based on sustainability, innovation, and future thinking.
