Year 10 Mural Competition

In the Year 10 pastoral and Religious Education classes, students have been collaborating on creating a mural that displays our school values of Pono (Truth), Manaki (Service), Aroha (Respect), and Tika (Justice). Pastoral teachers put a little competitive edge to the activity by making it a part of our year level ‘challenges’.

All entries demonstrated excellent understanding of our school values using thoughtful symbols. It was great to see the different interpretations and ways in which our values can be represented and communicated. The murals serve as great reminders of how we can not only follow but live these values on a daily basis.

The artistic talent and thoughtful consideration that went into the murals was impressive, making it very challenging to judge. Overall, the Year 10 Stanley Cup award (our year level challenge trophy) went to 10STH for their mural.

Next term, Year 10 students’ challenge will be to consider how to “make their school a better place”. Each pastoral class will be encouraged to develop their own interpretation of this and a strategy to make positive change and improvements to our school community. I look forward to seeing what they come up with!
