Thursday 16th May:

  • Pentecost

  • Why is it significant

  • Prayer to the holy spirit

Hi Everyone

This coming Sunday is Pentecost, the birthday of the church. Pentecost is special to us as it commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other disciples following the Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ. It marks the beginning of the Christian church's mission to the world. Pentecost always occurs 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus and 10 days after his ascension into heaven. The day's name is derived from the Greek word “pentecoste,” meaning 50th.

On Wednesday we celebrated a whole school mass for Pentecost with Father Hook. We had our prayers of the faithful in different languages, to represent the different cultures in our community. Father Hook also incorporated different languages, as he led us through mass. Overall it was an incredibly reflective and significant mass for the school.

Prayer

Come Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit

and they shall be created.

And you shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,

did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the

same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise

and ever enjoy his consolations,

Through Christ our Lord

Amen.

Have a great Weekend!
