Tena Koutou Katoa. Nau mai Haere mai
Greetings and welcome to Term 3
Firstly my thanks to students and staff for all of their hard work in Term 2. There was so much to celebrate and many milestones achieved across all dimensions of the school. Special mention to all involved in the fabulous musical "Bugsy Malone." There were also many fine performances on the sporting front with Kavanagh again taking out the local Co-Ed School's tournament. For myself, I'm pleased to be back on deck at school and fighting fit. My gratitude to the College community for all the prayers and good wishes I have received. I also thank Steve Read who did a superb job as acting Principal during my absence as did the whole management team and staff.
The clock is certainly ticking on this year and we are focussed on ensuring every student is lined up to achieve their academic goals this year. This term we also host the "Bishop's Shield" coming up on the weekend of 11 August. Come along and support the Kavanagh students as they debate, orate and perform in the drama competitions. Runners up last year so the challenge is on to take line honours as the host team.
One of the areas that is starting to take shape is the Dunedin Catholic Schools community of learning or "Kahui Ako". This involves Kavanagh and our nine contributing Catholic Primary Schools as part of the government's strategy for schools to work together in raising student achievement. We are hoping that our system of collaboration and learning objectives will be a model for the deep south, if not the entire country. Besides that, formally linking together as school's of the faith can only be a good thing to strengthen our network and provide a seamless pathway for Catholic education in Dunedin.
Reminder that our OPEN DAY is coming up on Sunday 6 August starting at 2.00pm in the College Auditorium. Please spread the word to any family and friends who are looking ahead to secondary education for their children.
Stay warm and safe.
Ngā mihi nui
