19th September is the anniversary of women in New Zealand winning the right to vote.
When the Governor, Lord Glasgow, signed a new Electoral Act into law in 1893, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world in which women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections.

It is timely to remember that Mercy Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 24th. Catherine McAuley was another courageous woman who forged a path for others to follow. Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy, remain a strong and influential presence in New Zealand, continuing to support the needs of women and children in our country through works of mercy.
A Prayer for Women's History
We remember those women whose courage paved the way for so many. Thank you for all the cherished women in our lives and in our histories. God, may women across the globe continue to be empowered, knowing the love you offer.
Amen
