SUMMER HOLIDAY READING BAGS
By Colette Mahoney | Posted: Tuesday November 7, 2023
The library is providing students with summer holiday reading bags to inspire them to engage in reading and enhance their literacy levels.
Research conducted in New Zealand and abroad has revealed that students' literacy levels can decline over the summer months, a phenomenon often referred to as the 'Summer Holiday reading Slump'. To counteract this trend, the library aims to provide students with custom book selections in specially curated bags that students can keep for the summer holidays.
The bags and books must be returned by the beginning of term 1 in 2024. We extend our gratitude to The Dunedin Public Library and The University Bookshop for their generous contributions of reusable bags and vouchers to accompany the books. Every student is encouraged to help themselves to a summer reading bag. Simply visit the library, complete a form detailing your book preferences and preferred genres, submit it, and we will assemble a bag tailored to your liking. You are also welcome to handpick your books. Should you have any inquiries, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at mahoneyc@trinity.school.nz.
