National Shakespeare Festival in Wellington

During King’s Birthday weekend, five Trinity Catholic College students, along with students from 47 other schools from throughout New Zealand, spent several days immersed in the world of Shakespeare when they attended the National Shakespeare Festival in Wellington.
During the Festival, four of the students presented a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream which had won the student-directed 5-minute scene section at the Otago Shakespeare Festival at the beginning of April. Meadow Stewart, Nuala Kelly, Jeremy Meikle, and Oliver Lodge (a last-minute replacement for Isaac Tili who was unable to attend) presented their scene with great energy and passion.
Phoebe Harris also attended the national festival as a result of the Direct Entry Award to the National Shakespeare Schools Production that she achieved last term.
As part of the weekend, the students had the opportunity to tour Toi Whakaari (New Zealand’s national drama school) and take part in workshops led by theatre professionals who shared with the students lots of valuable tips, tricks, and industry knowledge.
The students found attending the National Shakespeare Festival interesting, fun, and incredibly rewarding, and we’re proud of the way they represented Trinity Catholic College at this national event.
Huge thanks to Head of Drama Erica Ward who organised the trip and accompanied the students on this inspirational experience.
