An interview with Kavanagh student Tom Davis, the author and illustrator of Lizard, a story about a small lizard on a huge mission.
Q: What drove you to write and illustrate your own book?
A: I have always loved reading books and I have a large imagination. So one day I decided to write a book of my own.
Q: Have you written any other books?
A: Yes I have written several other smaller books.
Q: Is Lizard your first published book?
A: Yes but certainly not my last!
Q: Tom who are your literary inspirations?
A: Cressida Cowell and Tui T. Sutherland are two of my favourite authors. I was fortunate to meet and speak to Dave Pilkey and also see Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton live at the Regent Theatre.
Q: Have you enjoyed the publishing process?
A: Definitely! It is so cool to see how publishing a book works and to combine my love of writing with my love of drawing.
Q: What would be your advice to other budding authors?
A: Limit your time spent gaming to foster your imagination and write about something you love!
Q: Will there be a Lizard sequel?
A: Indeed and its title is going to be Komodo. I have started it already so watch this space.
Thank you for the interview Tom. What a fantastic achievement. We have copies of Tom's book Lizard in the school library. They cost $20 with 10% of profits going to the Syrian Refugee community.
