Trinity had the pleasure of welcoming Te Awhi Rito - The New Zealand Reading Ambassador, Alan Dingley, to our school last Wednesday.

You might wonder, what is the New Zealand Reading Ambassador? This position, appointed by the National Library, aims to cultivate, grow, and inspire a love of reading across our nation.

Alan Dingley has over 20 years of experience working with children and young people. Much of his career has been dedicated to public and school libraries, where he has passionately advocated for the transformative power of books. Travelling nationwide, Alan has inspired countless young readers and made a significant impact on literacy and the love of reading across the country.

Alan spoke to our Year 7-9 students in the auditorium, sharing his reading journey from a young boy reading with his grandad to an adult reading with his children. He challenged our students to become reading role models for their families, demonstrating the value of reading to siblings and parents. The Reading Ambassador left us feeling inspired and motivated to embark on our own reading journeys.
